Off The Grid Property Supports Log Home
(Being "off-grid" means not being hooked up to any electric utility company. Electricity may be from solar power and/or a wind generator. Typically there will be no brown outs or power surges.) No more utility bills.
This Solar Power is Powerful & Dependable
On this alternative energy property, electric power is generated by a powerful PV solar energy system that is set up and functioning. This robust electrical system is backed-up by an automatic 6.5 KW propane generator. The system is self-contained in a solar shed 8' x 14'.

Powerful Solar Energy System's Solar Shed; Water Storage Tank is Shown Behind
There are eight 245-watt solar panels mounted on the shed roof. They provide 24 volts of electricity which is stored in (24) 2-volt 900-amp hour batteries (industrial-size forklift type batteries). This energy is converted to 110 volt AC current by the 4KW Trace Inverter. An underground cable for monitoring the batteries runs from the solar shed to both the house and the RV hookup station. Through this the battery pack can be monitored from the house or RV.
You are your own power company!
Also in the solar shed is a 6.5 KW Kohler propane-powered generator. This low-rpm generator automatically starts whenever the battery voltage drops below a pre-determined level.
Alternative Energy Community
The entire surrounding community of homes is populated with off-the-grid homes and properties. Many of these energy self-sufficient homes use hybrid alternative energy systems which effectively combine photo-voltaic solar power with wind generator power to produce substantial amounts of electricity.
Excellent Alternative Energy Location for Solar and Wind Power
This mild climate location is very well suited for alternative energy. The sky is usually sunny with few cloudy days, providing excellent solar energy year around.
Wind energy is also a good resource here for a wind power generator (windmill or wind turbine), if so desired. Then, when there are days without sun and at night, the wind generator would be available to produce electricity.
Plentiful and high quality water is pumped by solar power from a 450 foot deep well. This pristine water comes from the Coconino Aquifer which is constantly replenished by run off from the Arizona White Mountains to the South. This water tastes great and is virtually unlimited. The self-contained solar pump is powered by its own dedicated set of solar panels, taking no electricity away from the property's main solar electric system. The well's solar pump automatically keeps the 3,000 gal. storage tank full.

The well, dedicated solar panels, buried pump house & 3,000 gal. storage tank
There is an underground pump house that pressurizes the water to the house and to three water hydrants on the property. Because the pump house is underground, no heater is needed in the winter to keep it from freezing. All water pipes are buried three feet underground to prevent any danger of freezing. (The normal burial depth in this area is two feet for water pipes.) All main water pipes are two inches in diameter.
Large Metal Building

1200 Sq. Foot Metal Building
Interior with skylights & storage shelving
The American Steel Span building is 30' x 40' with three skylights and a concrete floor and apron. The metal arch sidewalls are grouted down into the concrete slab, making the building extremely sturdy. The main door is a 16' x 8' roll-up door with a chain hoist, and the steel service door is 3' x 6'-8.
Rounding out the off-grid property is a 1,000 gallon septic system; underground telephone service (land line); Wild Blue satellite internet service; and an underground propane yard line. All utilities are run into the log home.
